Managing a small district is no small task and it takes someone special, like Sandra Voss, to do just that. After developing a strong business plan for her district, Sandra signed agreements with two neighboring districts to manage and direct their foodservice operations as well. These joint ventures allow all three districts to maintain fiscally sound programs while providing high-quality nutrition. In fact, Sandra has been able to expand Marquardt’s operations by adding equipment and staff without drawing from the district’s general education fund. She has grown her program from nine employees to 70 employees in just five years. When Sandra started in the Marquardt District, hot meals were only offered at the middle school. In 2010, Sandra moved the elementary schools to hot meals too, increasing participation in those schools to 55%. Due to her diligence, her program finances have grown from $800,000 to $2.82 million proving that Sandra’s success is a financial fact!
